Bad Fortune, Good Romance
When it comes to Pandora, people tend to associate it with Pandora’s Box from which Pandora unleashed many terrible things upon human beings. When I was in my 18th birthday, my dad gave me a Pandora necklace with my initials engraved as present. I cherished it very much, as I know the necklace is more than it is. What’s previous about the Pandora necklace is that it embodies the hope, regardless of all the pain, illness, diseases it inflicted upon mankind. Since then hope has always been in my heart even when one day I lost it.
It’s pity that I was so careless that I lost my precious necklace. I was upset all day long as if some part of me was missing. I wished to give up all to get it back, which I knew was thought in vain. Days later when I checked my mailbox as usual, interestingly I found a mail sent by “lucky star” saying “Do you believe in fate?” the first idea occurring to me was who the luck star was and how did he get my mail. I thought perhaps it was some sort of commercial mail promoting their websites or products, so I did not keep it in mind for long.
Then strange things happened every day. I received the mail from the lucky star every day who seemingly knew who I was and tried hard to strike up conversations with me. He was humorous, fun and I was not averse to talking to him. Mutual mail communication went on for almost two month and we found we had a lot in common. Then one day he finally took initiative to invite me out for a dinner. I agreed with excitement.
The moment I walked to the table we reserved, I was shocked, as he was no one but one of my big clients William. Typical of William always with good manners and being very gentleman, he seated me with charming smile.
“How?!” I was so surprised that I could not speak one more word.
“Before I explain the details, I had a small present for you.” William talked mysteriously.
Then, I opened the small delicately wrapped box and I could not believe what I saw: there was my Pandora necklace lying there.
“I know it sounds like a drama, but I had a special feeling for you since day one I met you at the conference meeting. For fear of being rejected at once, I decided to send mail to you every other day with hopes that you could really get to know who I am. I noticed that your necklace was gone and I thought Pandora’s necklace would match you perfectly, so I got you a new one.”
Not until now did I finally realize it was not my previous necklace, but I knew this present one was also as precious as the previous one. As with so many days of letter communication with William, I knew I felt the same way about him, too.
My sweet romance went on…
