Fashion Crimes of 2009
As fashion lows are much more fun then fashion highs, I am going to remember the fashion faux pas of 2009 because I’m just mean like that. Madonna, Lady Gaga, Leighton Meester (poor girl appears twice) and others appear in the following list:
In my opinion, the biggest fashion crime of 2009 has to go to Madonna, for her Marc Jacobs ensemble at this year’s Met Ball Gala. The iconic pop star really is old enough to know better. She is renowned for her ability to evolve and keep up with current trends but the thigh high boots and bunny ears scream of desperation.

Leighton Meester insists on pushing fashion boundaries, which I love her for, but when it goes wrong it goes horribly wrong. When Leighton turned up to this years Met Ball Gala, in this Louis Vuitton creation (Marc Jacobs, you are once again hitting the ball way out of the park), the other guests must of recoiled in horror. She may have just pulled it off without the leggings, but good Lord…

This brave ensemble was for a performance Leighton was giving to promote her burgeoning singing career. Even though this is a stage outfit, the sci-fi futuristic thing going on is hideous and those leggings are showing more of Leighton than I care to see.

Rihanna has been crowed as one of the most fashion forward celebrities out there. Her fierce, female warrior look has featured in fashion magazines all over the world. But this bandage outfit caught our attention for all the wrong reasons. Mummifying yourself, for art, is not a good look.

Lady Gaga has had a phenomenal year and has blown us away with her bonkers fashion sense. It started off a little out there though wearable enough but she seems to want to out-do herself event after event. This picture of Lady Gaga was taken at the ACE awards in London. Adorning herself with a black beaded crown, nestling a top her theatrical coiffed do and her face veiled with black lace; we all wondered if Ms. Gaga was going treat or treating after the event. To top off the outfit she looks as though she has dusted herself with a bag of flour.

So from one extreme to another, I’ll finish the Fashion crimes of 2009 with Kera Knightley, who has been keeping a low profile as late. However, she did step out onto the red carpet in this boring outfit. A brown suit for a red carpet event? The harem style trousers are a nod to current trends but they look too big for her and the tailoring just looks lazy. For a beautiful girl, she just looks blah in this – must try harder Kera in 2010!
