Has Mum Gone Mad?
The other day, Mark complained to me: “You know what? My mum had herself tattooed three days ago. Unbelievable! She is forty-eight years old this year. She’s no longer a rebellious juvenile. I mean even a young guy of my age won’t get tattooed for the sake of my health. Didn’t she know she was taking risk of getting infected?”

Mark and I have known each other since we were ten. And I know her mum who, in my perspective, has always been a caring mother and a responsible house wife. I couldn’t believe my ears. Could this be true? A forty-eight-year-old mum had herself tattooed? So, I decided to visit Aunt Jane and see what happened. Maybe Mark exaggerated the matter a little bit.
Last weekend, I went to Aunt Jane’s. Mark was there too. Aunt Jane was not surprise to see me, for Mark has told her that I was going there. She looked nice that day, even younger than one year ago when I met her at Mark’s college graduation ceremony. She was excited about her new tattoo on her leg – two dolphins jumping out of water. That was Aunt Jane all over. She loves dolphins and other animals.

She said to me: “I know Mark and his father are uneasy. But tattoos are not antisocial not rebellious for me. They are just a form of art – the only thing I’m really expressing is that I love dolphins and animals.”
I was almost convinced by her. And then she added: “But I have lost a couple of friends because of the tattoos. They either think only bike and prostitutes have tattoos or reckon that it’s wrong for a mother of my age to have tattoos. Just like Mark. I’ve tried to talk to him, but he never listened.”
Now what should I do? On one hand, my best friend hoped his mother to be traditional or at least get no more tattoos; on the other, the animal-loving Aunt Jane was planning to have another tattoo on her arm.
Suddenly I realized this matter could be perfectly solved with Ed Hardy – a brand that is famous for its tattoo patterns on clothes and other accessories. Then I said to them: “Don’t worry, everything will be settled. There’s a clothes brand called Ed-Hardy which produces clothed printed with tattoo patterns. Aunt Jane doesn’t have to suffer to put tattoos on her body. Mark, buy some Ed Hardy clothes for your mum. You know your mum loves tattoos. Take it easy, it is just a kind of art.”
