The Love of Our Parents
To all of us, from the beginning of our lives, parents start to play an important role in our personal development and education. Undoubtedly, parents always set an example to their offspring, for their behavior, the style of life and habits often become the subject that their children imitate. Then, a question will arise: are parents the best teachers? For me, I have to say I can’t agree with it more.
Above all, it’s proved by scientists that we animals are born with the ability to copy and follow our parents. That is to say, learning from our parents is our nature. Just like birds can fly, fish can swim; we take in a lot of things from our parents consciously and unconsciously. Maybe we have forgotten how hard they taught us to speak a simple word – “mom, dad”, how patiently they grabbed our arms to walk on the grass, how many times they corrected the way we use chopsticks, how excited we are when we received a Pandora as birthday gift which was being dreamt for a long time… Of course we can forget all these above, but we must remember how much our parents have paid for teaching us. On this point, without arguably, they are our best teachers.
Besides the basic living abilities, we also have a lot of things to learn from our parents. Some may say when we are old enough go to school parents seem to lose their effects on their children’s growth. They would rather consider teachers as the best way to contribute to their personal growth and expansion. Of course, teachers are really helpful on our specialized knowledge. But how can we continue our study without our parents’ support and conduct. When we are badly down, it’s our parents who give us faith to keep on trying; When we get emotional hurt, it’s our parents who show their shoulders for us to cry on; When we lose our honest and make some mistakes, it’s our parents who talk to us seriously in darkness… All the great spirits should be taught by our parents, because they are the people who really concern about our development and it will be much easier for us to learn the good characters if they are showed by our parents.
On the contrary, some people hold the different idea. In their opinion, parents aren’t consummate persons thus they are certainly have some bad habits and shortcomings. When they are involved in cultivating their children, they are likely to have bad influence on their offspring unconsciously. For instance, if parents are addicted to smoking and drinking, their children may copy the bad habit from them. Moreover, maybe as a result of loving blindly, parents tend to look but fail to see their children’s fault, which actually gives rise to their children’s rebelliousness and disobedience.
But how these bad influences exist? That’s because children always set their parents as models, as their behavior directions. So the problem doesn’t lie in whether parents are best teachers for us. It lies in what parents should do to become the best teachers. Therefore, it can’t be denied that parents are the real best teachers.
Mark Twain once said. “When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.”
