DESIGNER: Joaquín Trías

INSPIRATION: Titled, “Vertical Strength,” the show was inspired by all things linear

TOP LOOKS: Taupe caped wool jacket with plum high-waist trouser and green leather belt; taupe paper bag silk faille pants with black long sleeve top; the opening taupe wool trench coat dress with charcoal heather insets; double pleated long sleeve wool lichen dress

ACCESSORIES: Hand-knitted ombré tights with perforated rows up the back; platform leather peep-toe Mary Janes; strong eyebrows, rosy cheeks, and shiny taupe nails

WHO WAS THERE:
Famous fashion consultant, Robert Burke; and socialite, Jennifer Creel

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
This was Trías’ second season on the runway in New York. The Spanish designer, who has a literal fashion pedigree (he is the grandson of two Spanish countesses, one of whom was the model and muse of Cristóbal Balenciaga), showed a strong, focused collection based on vertical lines. Neither the concept, nor the palette — of taupe, plum, icy-pale aqua, black, and gray– could have been more minimal.whats

Trías consistently outfitted skirts, pants, dresses, jackets (and in one case, culottes) with cape-shaped toppers. If his vision for the collection was a bit too straight and narrow, the clothes were articulate and beautifully made, which is no small feat for a tennis player-turned-designer who is making his mark in the crazy, non-linear fashion world.
